Geneva Lake, Walworth County WI · scouting list

Where to look for a one-weekend, everyone-together wedding

No hall, no DJ. The goal is one place (or one cluster of places) where the whole family sleeps, eats and gets married over a single weekend. Places are grouped by how well they deliver that, with a driving route for the scouting trip and the questions to ask at each stop.

Group: ~30–45 people (the two of us, 7 kids, both dads, 4–6 families)Date: Saturday, July 17, 2027Style: ceremony + dinner, no hall, no DJ
Saturday, July 17, 2027 is peak season.

Plan on the weekend of Friday July 16 to Sunday July 18. Summer weekends at the lake book early, and most whole-house rentals need 2–3 night minimums; some won’t allow a Saturday check-in. Ask every place to hold dates while we decide.

Tier 1 · sleep and celebrate in one place

Top places to tour first

Each of these has enough beds for the whole group on site plus somewhere to hold the ceremony and dinner, so nobody drives all weekend.

Geneva National Cottages

Geneva National Resort · on Lake Como, between Lake Geneva and Williams Bay1221 Geneva National Ave S, Lake Geneva

Sleeps 10 cottages: six with 6 bedrooms, four with 4 bedrooms. Every bedroom has its own full bath.
Event Lake Geneva Room seats 100 for dinner; tented pavilion; lawn ceremony sites

Rent 3–5 cottages and each family gets its own bedroom and bath while sharing a kitchen, living room and patio. The closest thing here to a private compound, and the resort’s wedding team handles food.

Ask: can we rent a cluster of neighboring cottages, and hold a small dinner on a cottage patio instead of the clubhouse?

To tour
Top pick. Ask about renting a cluster of neighboring cottages and a patio dinner.

The boat idea

Keep the boat, cut the cost

A full wedding on a boat gets expensive because you pay for catering and hours on board. The cheaper version: marry on land, then charter a boat for a 60–90 minute sunset cruise with drinks.

Boat (Lake Geneva Cruise Line) Size Summer availability Good for
Walworth (the US Mailboat) Mid-size Evenings, ideally after 6:30 pm Rehearsal dinner or after-party cruise
Majestic (new 2026 boat) 110 reception / 60 seated Ask Built for smaller weddings
Grand Belle of Geneva Two decks Evenings only in high season Dinner downstairs, party upstairs
Steam Yacht Louise (1902), Lorelei (41 ft) Small Ask Just the couple and parents, or a photo cruise

Charters leave from the Riviera docks (812 Wrigley Dr, Lake Geneva) and Pier 290 (1 Liechty Dr, Williams Bay). See the fleet page and ask for per-hour charter pricing.

Places we checked and set aside

George Williams College campus (Williams Bay). Closed in December 2023 and sold to a developer building “The Preserve,” a 68-room luxury resort approved in February 2026. Not something to count on for July 2027.

Seven Oaks cottages. Lovely cottage cluster near downtown, but adults only (21+), and most cottages sleep two.

Lazy Cloud Lodge (Fontana). Hosts tiny garden weddings but has only 10 couples’ suites and no children in rooms.

LaRocque Farms (Walworth). A top barn venue with Friday–Sunday access, but fully booked for 2026 and 2027.

Big-ballroom venues (The Abbey, Riviera Ballroom, Nippersink): capable, but built around the hall-and-DJ wedding we’re skipping.

Researched September 26, 2026. Capacities and prices come from each venue’s own site or listing where available, plus wedding directories and a June 2026 local photographer’s roundup. 2027 rates aren’t published yet; confirm everything by phone.
